I’m back. I generally try to post at least once per day, but I slipped this week-end. Earlier I wrote a post about adoption and “
getting fit” so I was making sure I actually lived up to my preaching. Yesterday, I did the six mile walk for the
March of Dimes with my friend. It was quite an experience and a lot of fun. I’ve never done anything like that before. I generally give money and let other people do the walking part. That would be my lazy side talking.
My excuse for not posting yesterday and until late today is that I was just too tired to move.
I took my son with me and my friend had her two children. My son was a trooper. We had a few times that he didn’t move when we moved, but there were so many things to see that I’m not surprised he got distracted. I think he probably walked about two miles total on his little toddler legs and the rest of the time he rode in his stroller (or buggy as he calls it). We actually made pretty good time if you include the fact that we were walking with an out of shape person (me), a six month pregnant woman (my friend) and three children under the age of five. My friend’s mother was also there, but she didn’t seem to have any problems at all.

What struck me when were walking was how well my son gets along with my friend’s daughter. She is older, but she likes guiding my son through the hazards of childhood. It’s pretty easy to set her to the task of keeping him in line. It’s this blissful ignorance of race, where neither of them mention that they look different. My son is happy that a “big girl” wants to play with him and she’s happy to have a little person who lets her boss him around – a match made in heaven.
