We’re back from our vacation and I have access to the internet again. Nearly three days without my computer is enough to turn me into a babbling cyber-deprived woman. I could have used the hotel’s business center, but I managed to abstain – barely. Instead, I returned home to deal with three days worth of SPAM (sigh).
I enjoyed people watching these last few days. People watching is one of my favorite things to do when I’m on vacation. There was an Asian family at our hotel with a little boy who was only three days older than my son. We laughed because we kept unding up at the same places at the same time – the pool, breakfast, the sand dunes, breakfast again… Their son would have liked to play with my son, but my son ignored him completely. It did make me feel better to watch their son have virtually the same temper tantrum that my son had had five minutes earlier. It made me feel less alone in this crazy toddler world.

My husband and I have always preferred to vacation at off-times. We avoid the mid-summer when most families are vacationing. So, we planned this vacation deliberately for after Labor Day to avoid the rush. There are two types of groups who vacation when we do – those without children and those with small children. I was walking down the beach with my son on Wednesday and I realized that I was a part of the “those who have small children” group. When did that happen?
