I’m rather fond of folk tales from all different parts of the world. It always amazes me how similar they are when you break them down to the basic components. Across time and culture, people have used stories to teach children the difference between right and wrong.

Some of the stories are also legends. One is about how the flower (Crape Myrtle) came to be. When I was little I was fascinated with Greek mythology. Largely, I loved how the various legends were used to explain the existence of every day things that I took for granted – thunder and lightning or rise of the sun. It doesn’t seem to matter what country you study. Everyone wants to know how and if they can’t explain it…there is a story that does.
