Korean adoption remains open for prospective parents interested in adopting. At this point, all of the information released points to its closing in 2012. Korea is looking to conduct their adoptions in-country. My concern for anyone that is interested in adopting from Korea is that they may not have ample time to apply, process and travel before Korea closes. I might not be correct on that so feel free to contact a reputable agency. From what I gather, the time frame on the adoption of healthy infants is about three years. This, of course, is not possible to complete before 2012. I am not certain if the government will continue to process applications that have been submitted or completely cut off adoptions at that time. I have found no information that indicated that the applications have been stopped.
I know that Korea has been a very good adoption partner in the past. Even in 2010, 865 children were adopted out of this country. Though that number shows a decrease from the year before, almost all adoption numbers have decreased in the past couple of years. According to the adoption agencies that do work with Korea, this is still a viable option for people interested in adopting healthy infants. I have noticed that there only a few agencies that work out of Korea and some of them are limited as to which state a person resides in. If you have Korean heritage or are a citizen of Korea, processing times are quicker and you are given presidence over other families applying. Families must commit to accepting a child with correctable special needs.
The children that are available for adoption are housed in well-kept orphanages and receive good care. They are taken for immediate care if they have any sickness in order to protect the other children.
The eligibility requirements for Korean adoption remain the same. Korea is not party to the Hague Convention Statutes.

Check out the Joint Council website @ http://www.jointcouncil.org, they should have a list of reputable agencies that you can contact. I would love to hear how it goes and if your family does pursue an adoption from Korea at this point.
