December 1st – the first day of the last month of the year. I can’t believe that another year is almost over. It’s cause for reflection and a time to remember all of the things that happened this year – good and bad.

My co-bloggers on adoptionblogs.com often have themes. I’ve never been able to come up with a theme that I felt was right for me, but I think I have one for December – Simple Gifts. You’ll understand where I’m coming from on this one if you read the post I wrote for my other blog. Link: Simple Gifts

The month of December can get pretty hectic. There are presents to buy, parties to attend, my son’s birthday, Christmas, now… Sometimes, I think it’s good for me to step back and remember some of the simple gifts in my life. Simple gifts are things that you take for granted, but they make you smile or give you warm feelings.

My first simple gift is my adoption. I know that for a lot of people, adoption is not simple at all, but, in my case, I often take it for granted. Adoption is such a fact of life for me that I sometimes forget everything it brought me – my parents, my sister, my husband, my son, my friends. Adoption brought me here.

I often think that it’s a great credit to how comfortable I am with my adoption that I can take it for granted. The one great thing about this blog is that it doesn’t allow me to do that anymore. Though I don’t think that adoption should run my life, I do think that I need to remember that it is always a part of my life.
