Things have been very hectic around my house. We’re moving our office into the basement. The room that used to be the office is now going to be my son’s new big boy room. We’re buying him a new bed. We’ll make the move a little more gradual. Besides, we bought him a loft…so he’s probably going to be sleeping on the floor for awhile anyhow.
To top that off, my husband and I both have strep throat. The funny thing is that (other than the sore throat) I feel fine. I had no fever, no chills, no symptoms… I have a lot of energy and I have been using every ounce of it to chase my son. If my husband hadn’t gotten sick, I wouldn’t have known I had strep throat.
My husband, however, has all of the symptoms plus a few that are probably not related. He’s achy and he can’t move. He has no appetite and he went to bed at 8:00pm. My son kept looking at him and saying, “Daddy’s sick.”
Well, I probably broke all of the parenting rules tonight. I let him have popcorn for dinner and I let him watch one of his movies on a weeknight (normally, it’s only on the weekend). Not only that, I let him watch the movie until he fell asleep on the couch.

The only thing that I can say in my defense is that in the blessedly quiet two hours, I cleaned the familyroom, put two weeks worth of old newspapers in the recycle bin, loaded the dishwasher and found the surface of my kitchen table. After he went to sleep, I was totally selfish and I got to watch some television shows that I haven’t seen in a year and I ate popcorn for dinner too. Even the cats stayed away and let me have my time. I don’t expect that I’m going to have this time again so I really don’t want to go to sleep right now, but I think exhaustion is going to win.
