Generally, when you see racism is a movie it’s pretty one-sided. You either see a whole bunch of stereotypes about one group or you see the bad White people. I watched a movie last night that showed racism a whole different way.
When it came out, the movie “Crash” made a big splash. I really don’t like going to the movies so I didn’t see it then. We rented it this week-end and I saw what all the buzz was about.
Anyone who says that racism is a thing of the past should watch this movie. It upsets some people to watch things like this movie. I think there are a lot people who want to believe that it doesn’t exist or that it’s just a small pocket of people who haven’t moved into the right decade. This movie was raw and disturbing. It’s not your feel good movie, but it wasn’t your depressing movie either. It was, without a doubt, a movie designed to make you think.

The issues that are raised in this movie are astonishing. It didn’t astonish me that there were so many, but it did astonish me that someone was willing to tackle them in one short movie, but they did a good job. They presented the issues without placing the blame on any one race. It really illustrates how racism is really very multi-cultural – no one is untouched.
There are lessons learned in this movie though – really important lessons to learn. If you haven’t, watch it.
