Plastic Asian Food

This is great! When I was little, we had some plastic hotdogs and plastic canned vegetables. Now, they have plastic full-course meals. I’ve noticed an increased choice of foods – chicken, vegetables, fruit, fastfood, etc… but, I’ve never seen Asian food before.

So, as I was leafing through the Lilly’s Kids catalog, I stopped and smiled. There in the middle of the page was an Asian Cuisine Set. It has little sushi rolls, chopsticks and tea. It even has raw eel (which is my sister’s favorite). We are definitely becoming a more diverse culture.

Though I laugh and joke about it, there’s so much truth to it. When I was younger, I spent so much time searching for Asian things. You could find art and pictures, but very few things for children. Often what we did find were things that we had to make ourselves.

I would have been so thrilled to have something ready made from the stores – something that was on the shelf for anyone to buy. Even though it’s only one thing, it’s still there. It’s a nod to the fact that there is more to America than just hamburgers and apple pie. Now, if they would just make plastic tofu, my imaginary world would be complete.

I love this! I have been holding out on buying "food" for Ivy's princess kitchen, but this just may be too cute to pass up!

Gosh, I love the Lilly's Kids catalog. SUSHI! When Nick gets old enough for his play kitchen, I'll be ordering this. :) Very cool.

Mo, I thought about you this weekend... in fact, I often think about you and some of the things you have shared when I observe my happy, healthy, family-embracing and awesome almost-10-year old blessing. I blogged about her happiness at claiming our family... and I remembered your blog about family places and family memories. I'm so glad Beth is as content in her family as you are in yours. And I completely realize that doesn't negate her losses... but she can still see her gains.
