On my other blog, I wrote about a memory that I had about the spirit of giving. One event shaped the way I thought about giving and caring.

Pass It On
The gift that my church gave was large in scale, but I realized early that it doesn’t have to be big. Sometimes, the little things help people out to. I have always liked to give at the holidays, but most charities will remind you that they need help every day of the year. If you can afford to give big gifts, than that’s great, but if you can’t then you can still think big.
On one of the message boards that I read, there is a woman who is struggling with some big decisions. The child that was referred to her has medical problems that they didn’t know about at the time and they could be serious. I can’t even imagine the turmoil that she is going through as she waits for the information. As I read her posts, I thought that it would be nice if I knew who she was so that I could drop her a note – nothing big – just something that would let her know she was in my thoughts.

Then, I thought, why don’t we do this more often? When we know someone is having a hard time or someone is struggling with a big decision, why don’t we send a “pass it on” message? It would be simple. Make some cookies (or buy them in my case) and attach a little note. “We know that things have been rough lately. Just know that you’re in our thoughts and wanted to let you know. Pass it on.” If everyone who received one of these messages passed it on to someone else, imagine where it could lead.
