So, I’m cruising through my e-mail and I see the KAAN newsletter in my inbox. I love KAAN and I love the information that it brings. Front and center is a link to Korea.net about a Korean singer named Rain. (Follow the link to see a picture.) Oh, I’ve heard of Rain before. You can’t surf the world wide web for Korean news and not know about Rain, but this time it was about a tour in the United States.

I do realize that the chances of him coming to my neck of the woods is pretty low, but once again I marvel at globalization. When I was a child, you would never have heard about a Korean popstar in the United States. These things just didn’t happen with the same kind of regularity. In many ways I envy my son the international contact, but mostly I just marvel at how lucky he will be.

Of course, I expect that if he was a pre-teen or teenager, he would just roll his eyes at me and sigh. What am I talking about, he already does that at three. He puts those little hands on his hips and gives me that look that just shouts, “Don’t embarrass me!” I’m raising a three year old teenager.

From Korea.net - It was the largest concert ever given by a Korean artist and his second outing in the U.S., following two sold-out concerts in the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City last February.

Rain has expanded his fan base from New York in the east to Las Vegas in the west only 10 months after his debut on the U.S. stage.

He was also named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World this year.
