I’ve been thinking that I don’t spend enough time writing about birth parent searches. Because it’s never been a big issue for me, I don’t often remember that it is a big issue for other Korean adoptees (and their parents).

Soldier Finds Her Birth Family In Korea
This article was extraordinary on several levels. First, this adoptee was not searching because she felt disassociated with her adopted family. She searched because she wanted to and not because she needed to.
Second, I find it amazing that she was able to find her birth family so easily. After all, her birth parents should have thought she was dead, but instead they have found each other.
It’s the kind of fairy tale reunion that I always like to hear, yet I am also cautious of it. I know from other stories that there is not always a happy ever after. Sometimes, the Korean adoptee and the birth family do not bond…sometimes they don’t like each other at all. Sometimes, the Korean adoptee will never find their birth family at all.

But still, I always like a happy ending.
