Bird Flu
I found this article on one of the forums. Bird flu has me a little confused. I’m never sure if I should be ignoring it our seeing it as the next pandemic catastrophe. On one hand, it really hasn’t been as devastating as the early news reports made it out to be, but on the other hand my work has a task force and we’re trying to determine what we would do if the company was down by 50%. Mostly, I’ve decided to take a middle ground – I am cautious, but I am not stocking up my basement in preparation for quarantine.
South Korean health authorities said Thursday a suspected case of bird flu has been found on a poultry farm in the southern part of the country as about 6,000 chickens died in four days.

I do worry about these nations that rely on their chicken population. When thousands of chickens die and thousands more are killed to prevent the spread of the disease, it does so much damage to the local ecosystems.
The World Health Organization has reported that bird flu has killed at least 148 people in 10 countries since December 2003, and the Asian region has been hit hard by the virus.
We certainly can’t just ignore it.

The Total Picture
Here is an article about a couple who chose Korean adoption. It’s one of those happy stories and it touches on the family’s experience. I had problems relating to the article, but I think it’s mostly because they named their daughter the same name as my cat. No matter how many cute pictures of the little girl they showed, I kept picturing a fuzzy white face with whiskers. That’s my own hang up…I’m sure you’ll be just fine.
