Well, if you’ve made your decision to adopt again or at least you can breath normally when you think about it, you also have decide about the agency that you are going to use.
For some, like us, it’s already set. We had a good experience with the agency that we chose for our son and we have no plans to choose a different agency. This is the easy way. I know that some people did not have the same kind of luck with their agency. Some didn’t like the agency that we used.
So, if you didn’t like your first agency, what can you do to help yourself find one that you will like?
1. Search for agencies in your state that support Korean adoption. Because Korean adoption has been going on for so long, they have had time to refine their choice of agencies. There are a lot fewer of them then there are for other countries.

2. Isolate the reasons that you didn’t like the first agency. If you know exactly why you didn’t like them, it will help you avoid the same problems with a new one.
3. Try to look at your list as objectively as possible. When you are in the middle of an adoption, emotions are high and it is easy to distort small things. Remembering that an agency has little control over the two governments (U.S. and Korea) helps to put things in perspective.
4. Make a list of the things that you are really looking for in an agency. Call the other agency or agencies and talk with some people. See what they have to say. Choose the one that you think will be the best for you.
Someone once told me that they thought that adoption was the easy way. I don’t think that she was deliberately trying to be insulting so I didn’t get upset. Walk a mile in my shoes…
