Here’s a news flash that I just received in my e-mail (actually on Wednesday, but I overlooked it) and I wanted to share it with everyone who might be interested. The
Joint Council of International Children’s Services (JCICS) has been chosen by Build-A-Bear Workshops for their international awareness effort. It’s called
Stuffed With Hugs: Hugs Sweet Hugs.
Follow the link for the full details, but here is the summary. On May 19, 2007, you can go to your local
Build-A-Bear Workshop location and build a free bear that will go to a special child somewhere in the world who is waiting for a family. Organizations who belong to JCICS have the potential to do things on a much larger scale.

I think that going with your family to build just one bear would be a great family project. If you have an adoptee in your family, it gives them a chance to see what they can do for children who need families. When I was little, one of the hardest things for me to understand was that not everyone had a family like mine, a home, food, clothes… It didn’t seem fair and it didn’t make much sense to me. Truthfully, it still doesn’t seem fair to me and it doesn’t make much sense, but my early awareness of the issue shaped how I reacted to the world later in life.
I’m pretty sure that my three year old won’t understand the meaning of the trip, but I’ll still be heading for my local Build-A-Bear on May 19th. I also plan to forward that e-mail I received to everyone that I know. Spreading the word is half the battle right? Perhaps you can spread the word too?
