A Different Kind of Family Reunion in Korea

Posted by : Mo in Korea Adoption Blog at 06:07 pm , 301 words, 135 views

I came across an article about the two Koreas agreeing to restart family reunions. It’s hard for me to even comprehend how completely the two Koreas were separated. One moment they were one country in turmoil and the next they were separated by concrete and wires. Families were torn in half and many have never seen each other again.

Some people think that adoption is a lot like the two Koreas. They feel like a big wall has been... more

Last year, I wrote about all of the Korean Holidays. This year, I’m probably going to just direct you back to the original posts.

I actually had big plans for March. For some reason, I thought that I started blogging for AdoptionBlogs.com last March. It turns out that I actually started in February 2006. So, it throws my whole anniversary theme off. Time flies when you are having fun and I’ve definitely had fun writing for this blog. I’ve always enjoyed writing and I’ve always done it just for myself. There is definitely something... more

Visiting Korea

I check out the Holt International Magazine on a regular basis. I was adopted through Holt when I was a baby and I grew up looking through their magazine. When I was little, it was somewhere that had faces like mine and families like mine. As I grew older, there were interesting tidbits for me to read.

On page 28 of the Winter 2007 edition, there is an article written by a Korean adoptee (Kim Hanson) and I was relieved to see that she was a lot... more

Okay, so how can I not write about Toby Dawson finding his birth father? Awhile back, I wrote a post about Toby Dawson…Korean adoptee skier extraordinaire. It’s pretty neat to see a Korean adoptee front and center on the Olympics. Here are some article links:

Going to a Korean Party

Posted by : Mo in Korea Adoption Blog at 07:31 pm , 307 words, 84 views

We went to the Korean new year party today and we brought my friend’s little girl A with us. They had a lot of fun though A didn’t try any Korean food and my son only tried the noodles (after we told him that it had tofu in it, which he loves). Both of them ate a ton of fruit though and my husband and I enjoyed the food a lot. I was able to get my kimchi fix.

My thoughts are in sound bites tonight:

1. I am continuously grateful for my friends. We picked up A and as we were pulling out of the driveway, I told her that... more

Race and Racing

I am still amazed by how much I’ve been caught by the NASCAR craze. Sports of any kind have never been my thing and cars don’t really interest me as a general rule. Truthfully, if my company didn’t have an interest in racing, I wouldn’t watch it at all. The facts are that my company does have an interest so because of that, I spend many Sundays (and sometimes Saturdays) watching the cars going around and around in circles. I can tell you who is who. I have my favorites and I not what it means when an announcer says a car is tight or loose coming... more

Random Rants - Kindergarten Readiness

Posted by : Mo in Korea Adoption Blog at 06:42 pm , 317 words, 98 views

I’m a little distracted tonight. We went to a kindergarten readiness meeting at my son’s daycare and I’m having trouble imagining my baby in kindergarten. He’s only three, but they are already prepping them for bigger and better things. They explained their curriculum and how it’s designed to teach basic reading and writing skills before kindergarten.

To top it off, they showed us the private kindergarten room. We really think that we will keep our son at this daycare through kindergarten. After all, there is a definite bonus... more

Making Kimchi

I like kimchi. It’s definitely an acquired taste. My husband eats it, but he wouldn’t choose it and my son thinks it’s something I thought up to punish him with. The face he made the first time he tried it was priceless.

Whenever I’m at a Korean event or restaurant, I take the opportunity to eat it, but I’ve never considered making it at home. Of course, anyone who has read this blog for awhile knows my general opinion of cooking. Thankfully, if I ever truly want to bring it into my home, many Asian food markets carry it pre-made. I love... more

Korean Faces: James Parker

Categories: Korea - Current Events and Adoption News

There are quite a few Korean adoptees out there in our world, but I love hearing what they are up to. If you’re pretty normal, like me, the world generally doesn’t hear about you. When you do something different, like make edible art, the world hears about you.

This article in the Kansas City Star By Jill Wenholt Silva is about edible art and one of the stars of the article is James Parker (garde manger chef).
