Birthday cake is special. They can be beautiful, colorful, funny… They just scream celebration and they taste pretty good too.

We had just gotten to the FFC/Korean Christmas party and my son was starting to warm up to his surroundings…which means he was starting to run wild in all directions. He had gotten a head start on me, but I wasn’t in a hurry because I saw him go into the Christmas tree room (which only had one door). A Korean gentleman stopped me and asked me how old I was.
At first I was a little shocked and I wasn’t sure what he had asked me. Why in the world would he be asking me how old I am? He must have seen my confusion, because he asked me again. Yep, he really wanted... more

I am always impressed when well known people use their status to make statements and to do good things. Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers football player, is hosting eight biracial children from South Korea.
In South Korea, the treatment of biracial children (and adults) has long been a problem. One of the reasons I get upset with some Korean adoptees is because they talk about South Korea as if it is the perfect... more
I complain about snow a lot because I don’t like the cold, but you don’t see me packing my bags to head south for the winter either. Snow is an important part of my winter season and I’d miss it if I didn’t have it. Okay, I’m not so fond of driving in the snow or the brown ick that is formed after a couple of days of car pollution…but still, there is nothing like waking up in the morning, looking out your window and seeing a winter wonder land. When you see clean white snow across the lawn and the way the trees glitter like jewels as the sun comes up from the east, it’s breath taking.
When I was little, I once wondered if we actually lived in a giant snow globe. It seemed to me,... more
When I received the invitation to the party, I was immediately fascinated by the fact that there would be a Korean Santa Claus. What would a Korean Santa Claus look like? I was relieved when I wasn’t alone in my question. Everyone I mentioned asked me the same question.
So, when the announcement was made that Santa Claus was in the building, I made sure that I could see. I had dozens of expectations in my head and I’m afraid that... more
It’s never been so fun to drive through a neighborhood as it is this year. My son looks at the lights and he gets so excited. It doesn’t matter if they are white lights or colored lights. It doesn’t matter if they have form or if they are just strung from the garage roof. He sees them as a present. The other night, while we were driving home, he told me that he was going to ask Santa Clause for lights on his house. It made me smile. I think Santa is going shopping for Christmas lights this year.

Today, I reaffirmed something that I’ve always known and have never hidden. I am really not cut out for public life. As much as I like to go to parties and events, I also hate them with a passion that can’t quite be explained. In my comfort zone, people often beg me to stop talking…in this setting, I can’t think of word to say. I have two more of these parties coming up in the next week, but I have a secret weapon. I’m bringing my mother to both of them. She can talk for me. I can’t tell you what a comfort that is to me. (Hi Mom!)

December 1st – the first day of the last month of the year. I can’t believe that another year is almost over. It’s cause for reflection and a time to remember all of the things that happened this year – good and bad.
My co-bloggers on adoptionblogs.com often have themes. I’ve never been able to come up with a theme that I felt was right for me, but I think I have one for December – Simple Gifts. You’ll understand where I’m coming from on this one if you read the post I wrote for my other blog. Link: Simple Gifts

Okay, I know this is an extreme dramatization and I wasn’t fond of the graphics at the beginning, but this one really got to me. It is not for children. I think it’s because there isn’t any sound. It makes it that much more dramatic and memorable. In a rather macabre kind of way – I enjoyed it.
One of the things that it does remind me of is the fact that I could pass my birth family on the street (parents, siblings, cousins…) and I would never know. I can search faces for features that are like mine, but there are thousands of people who might have my same eyes, nose or facial structure.... more

I fell in love with this screen. However, I also just like this site. I’m not sure how I’ve missed it. It’s full of wonderful Korean items and I’m afraid they might get quite a lot of my money.
