I fell in love with this screen. However, I also just like this site. I’m not sure how I’ve missed it. It’s full of wonderful Korean items and I’m afraid they might get quite a lot of my money.

Plastic Asian Food

This is great! When I was little, we had some plastic hotdogs and plastic canned vegetables. Now, they have plastic full-course meals. I’ve noticed an increased choice of foods – chicken, vegetables, fruit, fastfood, etc… but, I’ve never seen Asian food before.

So, as I was leafing through the Lilly’s Kids catalog, I stopped and smiled. There in the middle of the page was an ... more

Korean Folk Tales

I was surfing the web and came across this fun site.

Choose a folk tale picture and then make sure you select the English button so you can understand the story. Personally, I enjoy listening to it in Korean too. I think it’s fun to hear things spoken in other languages.

I’m rather fond of folk tales from all different parts of the world. It always amazes me how similar they are when you break them down to the basic components. Across time and culture,... more

Forgive me for being brief, but I am watching the election results. It's a compulsion. I will most likely be up all night. Anyhow, before I got too engrossed, I wanted to pass on this website. I just found it and I've been having a lot of fun with it.

Korean Cooking

I saw this link on the KAAN newsletter and I started thinking about Korean cooking again.

Link: Low Fat Korean Cooking

I’ve always thought it would be interesting to try and make some Korean dishes. Notice, I said interesting and not fun. It isn’t that I don’t like Korean food. Actually, I really like Korean food. It’s that I don’t like to cook.

My husband does most of the cooking. I can cook, but left up to my own devices, I’d be dialing my cell phone on the way home from work. Knowing this, my husband chooses to cook. There’s also that pesky problem of my not wanting to touch raw meat – or... more

An Interesting Site: Korea For Kids

I was browsing yesterday and someone recommended this site so I thought I'd check it out.

Link: Korea For Kids

There are four sections:

1. The Counting Quiz - This section comes complete with sound. I have no ear for language so I can't tell you if it's good quality or not. I've tried and tried...

2. The Word Quiz - Okay, this part was fun. Who cares if the kids have fun right? This teaches you basic words and shows cool pictures. It also has... more

Chuesok – October 5th, 6th and 7th

Posted by : Mo in Korea Adoption Blog at 07:02 pm , 209 words, 270 views
Categories: Korean Culture, Korean Holidays

Chuesok is the Korean Harvest Moon festival. This holiday is scheduled on the lunar calendar so it will fall on a different day each year. In particular Cheusok is the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar; however, the day on either side is also celebrated. It is supposed to be a lot like the U.S. Thanksgiving, but with gifts and special games.

Someone sent me some great sites if you are interested about learning more.

Korean Foundation Day – October 3rd

I missed another one. I’m not sure where my mind has been lately, but obviously not on Korean holidays. October 3rd is Foundation Day in Korea. Legend has it the god-king, Tan-Gun, founded the Choson kingdom in 2333 BC. It just boggles my mind that most of the countries out there can trace their history back so far. It’s fascinating.

For information on Tan-gun, here is a link. Link: The Legend of Tan-Gun. I love things like this. It’s why I spent a good portion of my youth buried... more

My son was born in Nonsan City. When we received our referral, one of the first things I did was search for information and I immediately found the city website. Have I mentioned how much I love the internet? It is unbelievable how many things you can find and learn about. I imagine that we will be traveling there one day.

Some of the things to see in Nonsan City:

1. Gwanchoksa Temple – The largest stone Buddah in Korea

2. Tapjeong Reservoir

Tricyles and Korean Symbols

Posted by : Mo in Korea Adoption Blog at 03:31 pm , 305 words, 141 views
Categories: Korean Culture

No, I haven’t found anywhere that says a tricyle is a Korean symbol, but I wanted to work in the fact that my son taught himself to ride his tricycle and I couldn’t come up with a good way to do it. So, I’m just throwing it into the beginning of a totally unrelated topic.

National Flower – Rose of Sharon (Mugunghwa)

I’ve seen this flower before, but I never knew what it was called. I’m not much of a botanist.... more
