I was at a seminar all day about labor laws. Fun things like harassment claims, law suits, Supreme Court rulings, etc… It’s the way most people would like to spend their Thursdays.
It all started out okay. I dropped off my son (who actually cooperated this morning) and was driving towards my seminar and I was really struck by how beautiful everything looked. The trees are orange, red, yellow and a little bit green. I love Fall. I was married in October because I love the colors on the trees.
I arrived at the seminar location and it’s... more

On my other blog, I wrote about a memory that I had about the spirit of giving. One event shaped the way I thought about giving and caring.

The gift that my church gave was large in scale, but I realized early that it doesn’t have to be big. Sometimes, the little things help people out to. I have always liked to give at the holidays, but most charities will remind you that they need help every day of the year. If you can afford... more
This past week-end we traveled to Indiana to see my friend C and her family. I learned two very important things. First, I learned that I will never take a five hour trip in the car ever again without purchasing a portable DVD player. My son is just too young to understand five hours. Second, I learned that the trip down I-75 through Ohio is just as boring as the trip down the Ohio turnpike.
Other than that, once we got there…we had fun. There was plenty of football for my husband (tickets to see the Colts play the Titans), a backyard for my son and... more
Up until about the time I entered the 7th grade, I hadn’t really put much thought into the reality of adoption. To me adoption was easy and it was permanent. It never really occurred to me that there might be problems. I suppose that’s natural. After all, I only knew things from my point of view and my adoption was permanent and secure. My parents had fostered pregnant teenagers when I was little, but that wasn’t the same to me at all because there was never any expectation that those teenagers would stay.
All I knew was international adoption.... more
When I sat down to write this post, I realized that this is the last day of September. Tomorrow is October! I can’t believe how fast time seems to be moving lately. I have to think about Halloween (I don’t have a costume for my son yet.), his birthday and (gasp) Christmas.
So considering that my mind was spinning from the realization that it almost October, I decided to share what other people are writing and give myself a chance to catch up.
It always amuses me and, admittedly, mildly annoys me, when people assume I don’t speak English. I’ve never really understood that since most of the people that I know (who are here) that speak another language, speak English just as well as I do. Anyhow, one of things that I notice a lot is that people talk louder when they think someone doesn’t understand them. Why do we do that?
Did you catch the part where I asked why do WE do that? I wasn’t excluding myself from the question. Recently, we hired an employee who does not speak English as... more

Lately, my life has been full off non-adoption events. A couple of resigned from my work, potty-training is not going so well, my son has decided that he doesn't like going to sleep and my cats think my living room carpet is a litter box. It's a little frustrating.
Work is busy. We're short staffed so I'm helping out where I can, but that generally means that some of my work doesn't get done. Unfortunately, we've been short in important areas (data entry and payroll). Our employees get pretty upset if they don't get paid.
My son has decided two things - one, he doesn't like the toilet anymore and, two, he hates his bed. Nearly a week of wild screaming at bedtime is enough... more
We’re back from our vacation and I have access to the internet again. Nearly three days without my computer is enough to turn me into a babbling cyber-deprived woman. I could have used the hotel’s business center, but I managed to abstain – barely. Instead, I returned home to deal with three days worth of SPAM (sigh).
I enjoyed people watching these last few days. People watching is one of my favorite things to do when I’m on vacation. There was an Asian family at our hotel with a little boy who was only three days older than... more
I apologize for missing a couple of days. Things have been crazy. It’s really a good thing that I didn’t travel to get my son from Korea. I would have had a nervous breakdown before I got there. My husband and I took next week off so this week I am preparing for our vacation.
There were points today where I couldn’t keep a coherent thought in my head because I was trying to do so many things at once. Even while I was trying to create a list for my co-worker who will be handling the “can’t wait” things, my brain was contemplating the twelve other things that had to get done before Friday evening. My husband called me at one point to check in and talking to him was just one thing... more

As we were making our way to our seats, I was people watching. I do that a lot. I enjoy watching people and watching the way they interact. I think that sociology would have been a subject that I would have enjoyed studying.
Mostly, I was thinking about how many things that we have in common with other people that we don’t even realize. At... more
