Awhile ago, I wrote about a young man who was trying to adopt two older children in Korea. It fascinated me - first, because he was actually in Korea trying to complete the adoption and, second, because he was a single man who wanted to adopt two boys.

So, for those of you who were as fascinated as me, here is an update. He has one of the boys home with him now and he is muddling through the new parent issues. Though things were rough at the beginning, things are starting to work themselves out. He hopes to bring the other boy home too, but... more

On September 16th, I posted an article from the Australian newspaper about a temporary suspension of Korean inter-country adoption. I’m seriously beginning to wonder if this isn’t an Australian issue only because I can’t find it anywhere else. I’ve searched and searched. I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
1. Here’s a funny one from Korea. It seems that China is watching Korean soap operas and finding some pretty “weird” things about Korean customs. My favorite on the list is “Korean women often resort to hair-pulling when fighting.” I love it. It lends truth to Koreans being the Irish of the Orient doesn’t it.

I found this article from an Australian newspaper about any new Korean adoption applications being suspended temporarily. All adoptions in progress will continue. I have not been able to find anything in the U.S. media or on my Korean media sites.
Okay, as I stated in my last post, I have been in my own private world the last few weeks. I've obviously missed out on the popular culture news. So, when I saw this article on the KAAN newsletter, I was shocked.

I have never watched Survivor, but I have heard the stories and seen the clips on television. I firmly believe that this show may cause some serious damage. If nothing else, it will encourage the... more
Since joining this blog, I have been checking out Korean newspapers and Asian American journals. I’d never done that in the past. I do think it’s interesting to compare foreign journalism to the U.S. media. In some ways it’s not that different…they talk about entertainment, government, Iraq, etc… and the headline is generally the latest scandal. However, what I’m always amazed at is the greater reporting on the world.
In the U.S. Media, we hear about things here on the home front and we hear about how other things affect... more

I always like to hear what Susan Soon-keum Cox has to say. Perhaps because she works for the agency that I came through as a child or perhaps just because she is always so eloquent – I’m not sure. I thought I’d share this one with you.

Yunjin Kim is my favorite “Lost” lady. Even though this is in a golf magazine and I have yet to understand the appeal, I thought I’d pass it on. It’s always fun to see how a Korean professional is doing.

Okay, this was just caught my attention and I thought I’d pass it on. People are really the same everywhere – changing their names to be trendy and in the moment. What I’ve noticed lately in Michigan is that people... more
There are a lot of rumors flying out there right now…a lot of panicked people. Currently, I don’t have the information to tell anyone what is fact and what is fiction, but I urge everyone to call their agencies and social workers before they panic.
What I can tell you is the Korean adoption is going to change and, at least for awhile, things are slowing down. In the past, the Korean government has made attempts to encourage domestic adoption, but they’ve never done it on such a large scale before. It will be interesting to watch and see how this develops.
My husband and I aren’t ready to adopt again. We have things that we need to do and money to save before we’re ready.... more
Check out this post on the “Adopting from Korea – Mom Rant & Blog” about changes to the Korean Program.
Well, it’s Wednesday and I am surviving my stay in North Carolina. The trauma of being separated is (once again) one sided. Though my son asks for me, he is doing fine. He tells everyone that his Mommy is riding on an airplane. I think he believes that I am flying around and around in the airplane still.
My husband has jam packed the week with fun foods. He had hotdogs yesterday – three of them. Tonight is either pizza or mac-and-cheese from the box. Whichever one he doesn’t have tonight he’ll have tomorrow. When I call, he tells me all about his dinner and who he played with that day. He’s getting to that age where we’re really going to have to start watching we say because... more
